Introduction

HBWATG has provided adventure training for cadets in Herts and Bucks Wing ATC for than 20 years, with activities like fell walking, scrambling, climbing, abseiling and mountain biking in the hills, and kayaking and (open) canoeing on rivers and lakes. Opportunities for cadets and staff range from basic training courses to expeditions. The group also provides training and support for Gold expeditions in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme (DEAS)

As an established centre of competence within the Wing the group's role in developing new leaders and instructors is vital, ensuring that adventure training remains a key activity for the next generation of cadets

Outside the Wing the group is well known for its overseas expeditions, including an unsupported canoe journey through the Canadian wilderness in 2000, and the ascent of a 20,000' Himalayan mountain in 1991 - the picture above shows members of the group crossing a glacier at 19,500' just before they climbed the ice cliff to the summit ridge

This site provides information about the group and its activities - past, present and future. It also provides information of wider interest to anyone involved with adventure training in the Air Training Corps
