About HBWATG
The
Corps' motto
of "Venture
Adventure" puts adventure training at the very heart of Corps
activities, and every cadet deserves opportunities to take part. However, many Squadrons simply don't have
the resources to
undertake adventure training in wild country without support
For Herts & Bucks Wing, the group provides the leaders, instructors, accommodation, equipment and transport
to run courses that are open to cadets from every
Squadron in the Wing. The courses mainly involve mountain activities (walking,
climbing, abseiling, mountain biking) and canoeing (kayaks, open canoes on flat
and moving water)
Every
few years, the group undertakes expeditions, allowing staff and cadets to
become involved in the organisation of a major expedition to a remote and
challenging part of the world.
The group supports the
expedition stage of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Gold level by training candidates
within the Wing, and providing equipment, transport and
support staff for the practice and qualifying expeditions - usually in North Wales.
Last, but by no means
least, the group has a vital role in recruiting, training and developing new
instructors. Most of our current instructors first got involved with adventure
training as cadets attending group courses, then spent time as staff cadets
before becoming full instructors
