The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Many Squadrons actively promote and coordinate the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme for their cadets, but most don't have the resources to organise a Gold level expedition in wild-country. HBWATG does have the skills and equipment, so aims to organise at least one Gold expedition a year

A briefing was held in January 2002 for anyone wishing to do the Gold expedition during the summer course (which will run from 13 to 20 July). A series of training meetings has now been scheduled, building up to the final  qualifying expedition in Snowdonia, North Wales, The meetings will be held at the Wing Training Centre on the airfield at RAF Halton, from 0930 to 1230 on the following Sundays:

17 March

7 April

28 April

19 May

16 June

7 July

It is emphasised that the Gold expedition provides a real challenge. It's physically demanding, and you will need to demonstrate commitment, hard work and teamwork to succeed. We can provide support and training but the achievement of a successful expedition will be all yours!

If you're ready to face up to the the challenge this summer, please contact Flt Lt John Smith, the Wing Adventure Training Officer, and come to the first meeting on 17 March
