Letter to Canada team June 1999
You are one of approximately 30 cadets who have attended
one or more training days for next year’s Canada 2000 expedition. Now, with
just one year to go, we need to identify the cadets and members of staff who are
really committed to the trip, with the intention of selecting the team by the
end of the year. (The target date for initial team selection is the Winter
expedition at Windermere in November)
So far, you have received a lot of information about the
expedition, and had a good introduction to handling and traveling in an open
canoe. From now on, training will concentrate on the specific skills, experience
and personal qualities required for the trip, so we need to focus it on those
people who are serious about competing for a place on the expedition
As you know, the trip is provisionally planned for the
first three weeks in July 2000, and the cost is expected to be in the region of
£1,000 per person. We can’t be specific yet about the final costs and dates,
as they depend on the availability and price of flights to and from Canada. More
information should be available by the Summer Expedition in August
The next two training weekends will take place over the
weekends of 19-20 June, and 3-4 July. After the July weekend, cadets and staff
will be asked to pay a deposit of £50 into the expedition account to show their
commitment to the trip, and to provide a fund for expedition expenses. This
deposit will be returnable if candidates are not selected, or have to withdraw
at a later date.
Please complete the slip below and return it to John
Smith, Andrea Glennon or me as soon as you can.
