Introducing HBWATG

For more than 25 years HBWATG has introduced cadets in Herts and Bucks Wing cadets to adventure training, with activities like fell walking, climbing, mountain biking, kayaking and open canoeing. Opportunities range from basic training courses to expeditions in the UK and overseas. The group also provides training and support for Gold expeditions in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme (DEAS)

The group is an established centre of competence within the Wing with a vital role in developing the next generation of leaders and instructors. Most of the current instructors first encountered adventure training by attending the group's courses as cadets

Outside the Wing, the group is well known for its overseas expeditions, including an unsupported canoe journey through the Canadian wilderness in 2000 and the ascent of a 20,000' Himalayan mountain in 1991 - the picture above shows members of the group crossing a glacier at 19,500' just before they climbed the ice cliff to the summit ridge

This site provides information about the group and its activities - past, present and future. It also provides information of wider interest to anyone involved with adventure training in the Air Training Corps
