HBWATG newsStaff QualificationsOn 1st April 2002 the staff qualification requirements for cadet walking and climbing activities changed. Click Qualifications for more information During the last 12 months, two members of the group have completed their ML (summer) assessment courses at Plas y Brenin. Another instructor is booked on an ML (Summer) assessment course later this year, and other instructors are booked onto ML training courses. Several experienced instructors who have previously completed the ML Training course have been assessed and granted Competence through Experience (CTE) status Now that the deadline for CTE assessment has passed, the group is starting work to introduce BELA courses into the wing by the end of the year. Risk AssessmentThe ATC is working hard to implement the best Health & Safety practices, including the application of risk assessment for all adventure training activities. Since 1 April 2002, Central & East Region has required all applications for adventure training to be accompanied by a risk assessment statement, prepared and signed by the activity leader In March 2003, we received the new Air Cadets Health and Safety manual (ACP5) which specifies a new risk assessment form and procedure. Details are being studied, and information will be uploaded to this site in due course Courses and activitiesStaff training has continued through the winter with a biking and walking trip to North Wales at Christmas, a week of winter training in Scotland in January and the CTE assessment weekend in North Wales in March. Duke of Edinburgh award training has started with a couple of training days and a practice expedition in Shropshire. The next cadet course will take place in North Wales at Easter, ad joining instructions have been forwarded to the selected cadets
